Bologna has 100 hectares of disused railway or military areas which may be transformed, thus triggering a process of urban requalification with a high environmental impact. The abandoned public areas could serve new purposes for the city, hosting houses, oice buildings and stores, hotel, tourist and restaurant facilities, etc.. The renovation, which will interest Bologna for the next two decades, will come along with the creation of new parks, facilities for the community, social housing and enhanced public transport.
